Design, specification, installation, warranty and service are aspects of outdoor lighting that are interrelated: good design requires specification of precision components; good quality components should have extended life and a reasonable warranty; service is a function of the ability to renew wear items such as sockets, lamps and connectors quickly and at low cost. It is important that a lighting company have a sufficient track record to inspire confidence in their ability to meet all these needs. A service vehicle fully stocked with all parts to maintain or replace problem components is a must. Also, a lighting company should stand between you and the manufacturer on warranty claims; ideally this means repairing or replacing on the first service call and then resolving warranty claims at no cost and no interruption of lighting system operation.
Service agreements that are essentially extensions of the original warranty offer a fixed cost for maintenance. Price is normally related to the replacement cost of lamps in a system, since this constitutes the major maintenance expense.
